A cup of tea, a biscuit and a chat with your local community retailer is the offer for c-store customers on National Cuppa Day, June 3.
The initiative, believed to be the first day to celebrate the British love affair with tea, is part of National Independents' Week and has been devised by the FWD's My Shop is Your Shop (MSYS) campaign to help retailers demonstrate that they play a central role in their community, and have a relationship with customers that multiple outlets can't match.
MSYS suggests that retailers spend a few hours in the quieter part of the day offering tea and biscuits to every customer. Tetley is lending support with a special MSYS-branded 'six for five' offer on Tetley 80s from wholesalers and McVitie's is offering a 'four for three' deal on selected lines.
Other activities which retailers are planning for National Independents' Week (June 2-7) with the aid of MSYS include parties and a Walk & Shop Day.
MSYS chairman Alan Toft said this year's event would build on the success of the first National Independents' Week last year. "Wholesaler and supplier support has reached its highest level ever, and there's more to come," he said.
"Retailers have welcomed National Cuppa Day as a unique and constructive theme for the sector."
