Wholesale group Bestway has reported a strong year of trading for 2008/09. The group posted a 5.2% increase in turnover in the year to June 30, 2009 and its annual wholesale turnover increased to £1.92bn from £1.83bn in the previous year.
Pre-tax profit also increased to £39.9m from the previous year's figure of £34.1, a rise of 16.8%.
As well as showing strong results, the group also expanded throughout the year it extended its central distribution warehouse in Coventry to ensure greater stock availability and introduced a new website with online ordering facility.
Bestway Group chief executive Zameer Choudrey praised the group for its success.
"The group prides itself as the most competitive in the sector and we continue to demonstrate our commitment to our customers by ensuring we have the lowest prices and widest product range in the sector," he said. "Despite the prevalent economic conditions, we provided consistently competitive pricing, relevant and deep-cut promotions, and a comprehensive range of more than 30,000 lines."
He added that he was confident the group would continue to build market share.
