How much do you pay for your plastic bags? Just curious. Obviously they ain’t free.
They also don’t grow on trees. But you used to be able to tell when you were getting near a supermarket the trees and fences would all be festooned in orange plastic bags, or blue and white ones at least those were the colours round here with Sainsbury’s and Tesco dominating.
But now that the reuse of plastic bags and the purchase of hessian hefters and so on is urged, it looks a lot better outside.
So, government, here’s a solution (and not a stupid one that you think makes you look like you are being nice to small business): just let stores charge what they like for the bags, like they can with baked beans.
Give the proceeds to charity or keep it. Surely, that would work? Vote for me.
