West Yorkshire Police have charged one man and three teenagers with the murder of convenience store owner Gurmail Singh and the robbery of his store last month.

Gurmail died after suffering several blows to the head while in his Huddersfield store on February 20. During the course of the incident, a small amount of cash, cigarettes and chocolate was stolen. The four are to appear before Huddersfield Magistrates later today.

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Superintendent Dave Pervin thanked the local community in Huddersfield for the support and assistance given in the investigation.

Kirklees Divisional Commander Chief Superintendent John Robins added: “The response by the local community to this tragic incident has been incredible. People in an around the Cowcliffe area have provided information which has greatly assisted the investigation team.

“The best way to support Gurmail Singh’s family now is to continue to work with the police during a time when officers remain engaged in their investigations.”
