Gillett’s Callington has reopened its original store in Callington, Cornwall, following a major redevelopment.
The 2,200 sq.ft. Spar store has undergone a total refurbishment programme in a co-investment project with Appleby Westward, opening its doors to customers again with a completely new look.
The store was the first acquired by the Gillett family more than 30 years ago, and the group now operates more than 60 Spar stores in the South West.
The Post Office opposite the store has moved into the newly refurbished store, offering extended opening hours for customers, and convenience shopping has been made easier with a completely new internal layout. The store has a new frontage, windows, flooring and has had a total re-design throughout.
The butchery section, serving locally-sourced meat, has moved to the front of the store, offering the latest in contemporary butchery, with the ability to supply 30 day aged locally-sourced beef. Fresh produce and chilled foods are positioned centrally, along with a newly-branded foodservice section. The off licence has moved to the side of the store, and top-up grocery items are available towards the rear, where the Post Office is now located.
Working alongside Spar UK, the newly redeveloped store is the latest fresh concept store tailored to the needs of its community. “Store formats play a very important role within our national Growing Together strategy,” said Ian Taylor, Spar UK head of retail. “Spar Callington is a continuous development of our fresh format strategy and this store is an exciting example of what SPAR can offer in the way of fresh food.”
Managing director Mark Gillett said: “It was the success of the Callington store in the first place that gave us the confidence and provided the foundations for the growth of our family business.
“We recognised that our Callington store needed investment and the work we have undertaken has created a stunning state-of-the-art next generation Spar store. We are very excited about the development, which offers the very latest in convenience shopping to the people of Callington.”
