The Midcounties Co-operative has donated a sum of £2,200 to the White House Cancer Support charity in Sedgley, as part of its ongoing ‘Regional Communities Strategy’.

The scheme which aims to support and raise awareness of local charities, saw the food store in Sedgley raise important funds by taking part in a sponsored exercise bike ride at the front of the store branded the ‘Tour de Sedgley’. Other activities included an in-store bake sale and bag packing service.

Donations were made to the White House Cancer Support (WHCS) charity in Sedgley which offers local people affected by cancer a place to go and enjoy activities including arts, crafts, relaxation and various therapies.

Simon Hartland, leadership team ambassador at The Midcounties Co-operative, Sedgley, said: “White House Cancer Support plays a huge role in ensuring that people affected by cancer have a place to access support when they need it. Cancer is something that touches the lives of many of us, and so we’re very proud to be able to donate a significant amount to the team there, and help a valuable community service.

“Our local community fundraising scheme is making a meaningful difference to great causes across our trading area, and we look forward to continuing to support the team at WHCS in the months to come.”

Last year the Midcounties Co-operative achieved a five-star rating in Business in the Community’s ‘Corporate Responsibility Index’, after volunteering 26,000 hours into local communities. The Midcounties Co-operative has invested over £11m in the last 10 years to community projects.
