The My Local convenience chain is likely to go into administration within the next two weeks, following the filing of a Notice of Intention to appoint administrators.

According to the Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers (Usdaw), My Local will go into administration in the next couple of weeks after lining up restructuring and accountancy firm KPMG as administrators. Staff were briefed yesterday (Tuesday) about the development.

Joanne McGuinness, Usdaw national officer, said: “My Local staff are devastated by the news that the company is going into administration. Having been sold by Morrisons last year, there was a mood of optimism that the new owners could turn around the business.

“We are talking with the company in a bid to save jobs and get the best deal for staff. In the meantime, Usdaw is providing the support, advice and representation they need at this unsettling time.”

My Local currently operates 130 stores and employs over 2,300 members of staff. In the event of the business failing, the liabilities for the leases will revert back to Morrisons.

Morrisons have offered to re-employ any of its former staff who moved across to My local when the original sale completed last October, should My Local cease trading.

In a statement on its website, the multiple grocer said:

”We are saddened and disappointed to learn that My Local is about to enter into administration. We realise this is a very difficult time. We want to be able to help former Morrisons colleagues who work for ‘My Local’, who might lose their jobs as a result of this.

”We hope that My Local is able to continue to trade but if it does unfortunately have to close stores, we would re-employ any colleagues that want to rejoin Morrisons, and that previously worked for us and transferred to My Local in October 2015. We would welcome those colleagues back to Morrisons within 6 months of the individual store or head office closure.

”For those who haven’t previously worked for Morrisons, should their store close we will welcome their application for any vacancies available with our stores, logistics or manufacturing sites.

”If any My Local colleague wishes to contact us now to show their interest, please send your name, area and email address to morrisonsresourcing@morrisonsplc.co.uk. Please note we will not offer former colleagues a role within Morrisons while My Local continues to trade. If however a store closes, we will speak to the relevant colleagues who have registered their interest with us.

”We expect this is a very difficult time for you, and will help to support you wherever we can.”
