A father and son team in Horsham, West Sussex, have reopened their store as a Budgens with an in-store Post Office.
Shelley’s Budgens of Holbrook, which opened on Thursday, marks Phil and Chris Shelley’s first entry into symbol retailing, after more than 50 years in which the family have run shops in Horsham and surrounding villages.
The 2,800sq ft store has an increased fresh range, including coffee, breakfast and lunch to go options, alongside a selection of local and artisan ranges.
Phil and Chris were previously running a ‘Shelley’s News’ store on the site but took the decision to convert the store to a Budgens when the adjacent unit became available.
Chris Shelley said: “I am really excited about opening the doors of our new Shelley’s Budgens, it’s been a real transformation but I feel confident we’re offering a store the Holbrook community can be proud of. We are family business and we’ve been running stores within the Horsham area for generations. We pride ourselves on providing top quality food, excellent customer service and supporting local suppliers, joining Budgens will help us build on this ethos.”
The store was officially opened by Sioux Winn and Pam Day, two of the Shelley’s longest-serving members of staff with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10am. Customers were offered samples from local sausage specialist Bangers Galore and hot pie tasters from Surrey-based The Real Pie Company.
To promote the launch, 12,000 leaflets have been circulated in the local area including two vouchers offering £5 off when you spend £20 in store.
