Leading wholesaler Parfetts Cash & Carry is set to trial a new store concept which it hopes to offer to franchisees.
The Stockport-based group says that its latest move is a bid to help safeguard the future of independent retailing and follows the acquisition of its own convenience store.
Parfetts bought the store in New Mills, just outside Stockport, at the beginning of January and has recently received planning permission to refurbish and extend the site. It is currently being managed by staff from Parfetts' Stockport depot.
Although it has yet to develop a name or fascia style, it aims to roll out the store identity and fascia as a franchise opportunity. Parfetts also hopes to use the store as a training site.
Steve Parfett, managing director of Parfetts Cash & Carry, said: "We are not setting up a store to rival our customers in the Stockport area, but rather develop an opportunity and hopefully a franchise that other independent retailers can become involved in."
