The People’s Supermarket has embarked on an ambitious fundraising drive to secure £25,000 in 60 days to help pay for renovations to its Holborn store in London.

The community store has enlisted the help of website Buzzbnk, an online marketplace that connects social ventures with backers, supporters and fans. If the financial target is not met within a designated timeframe, funds pledged by backers are returned. Donations start at £5.

The People’s Supermarket is hoping to raise enough funding to increase its kitchen capacity and grow its People’s Kitchen food brand, as well as make the store more accessible to disabled customers.

Extra capital would also enable it to install a bread oven so that the store could produce its own bread and hold classes in bread-making.

“In just 18 months we’ve accomplished more than we could have imagined,” People’s Supermarket co-owner Kate Wickes Bull said. “But now we need everyone’s help to take us to the next level.”

As C-Store went to press on the fifth day of its 60-day campaign, the store had raised £195.
