Dip maker Cuzena is launching a range of hummus alternative dips into convenience store chillers.
Marketing as the ‘spicy cousin of hummus’ and available to independents and Spar retailers, the brand’s three fava (broad) bean dips: garlic & coriander; fiery chilli; and caramelised onion. are made using recipes inspired by the Middle East.
Each dip is vegan, high in protein / fibre and features vitamins A / C, potassium and iron. The trio are also gluten-free and can be enjoyed cold and hot - as a dip or sandwich filling, topping for jacket potatoes or sauce for stews, curries, pastas and couscous.
Made with British fava beans, the dips can be ordered via Cotswold Fayre from this month and each one comes in an 170g pot format with an rrp of £2.95.
Shadia Al Hili, founder of Cuzena, said: “Our dips are examples of classic Arabian cooking - simple, flavoursome food that is not only delicious, but healthy. That ticks lots of boxes for today’s consumer, especially as they’re also perfect for a free-from or vegan diet. We estimate over 75% of Brits are dip buyers, so the opportunity for these challengers to hummus and salsa is significant. They’re also just the start of our mission to introduce the UK to ‘undiscovered’ flavours and foods from the Middle East.”
