Limerick cheese producer, JOD Food Products, has recalled a range of its products falling under the Old Irish Creamery brand after it was feared the cheeses could contain traces of listeria.

In an announcement by the Food Standards Agency today (21 February), 18 varieties are listed, including a chili version which is co-branded with Spar, among others. Listeria monocytogenes can prove especially nasty if eaten, with possible symptoms similar to flu including high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea. In rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications, such as meningitis.

JOD Food Products is recalling the above products immediately, and POS notices are to be displayed where the products were sold. Posters are available to download from the FSA website, explaining to customers why the products are being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought any of the products.
