Even the existing EBRS is insufficient to keep us going.
Does this mean subpostmasters are underpaid?
Without EBRS the increase in our electricity bill for 2023 will be equivalent to the cost of employing staff for 60 hours per week.
The cost of running freezers will be three times our 2022 gross profit on frozen foods and ice cream.Camelot's equipment is dreadful.
Customers can be defrauded quite easily.
As with card pinpads, they should be able to insert their own lottery ticket, and see the result on screen themselves. The NFSP have woken up?
It's £260 each for 6 months.
£10 a week.
Mind you, how many of the "11,500" post offices are still open?(£3m/11,500)x2=£520pa.
Manufacturers' packaging could benefit from the attention of Trading Standards. Many dates are hidden (confectionery, cakes), many are unreadable (lettering on clear plastic), and others are misplaced.
Meanwhile, dates on eggs are completely irrational.
"Display Until", then (7 days added) "Best Before", then "Consumer Keep Refrigerated".
Most customers do not know the difference between "use by" and "best before".We stopped selling disposable BBQs two years ago, because staff and customers told us of accidents, especially on beaches.
Ours is only a gesture, I know, but I feel better for it.When we first arrived at our village shop we opened 45 hours a week. Now we do 64. We did try opening later in the evenings, but nobody needed it. Customers were eating their dinners and then going to the pubs. We had competition less than 100 yards from us; they tried 8am-10pm, 7 days a week, and went bust. Times have changed, and lunchtimes can be busy, so we open 8.30-1830 without closing for lunch.
We replenish stock only during those hours. There is always something for staff to do. If you have hours when profit does not cover staff costs, you should not be open. We are all entitled to a work-life balance.Life's too short to bother with "reward" schemes that frequently fail.
Tesco, Bookers, Londis, Budgens?
No.
Bottles of Spirits for £3,500?
A bottle of Scotch can fetch $1million!Donkeys' years ago this happened to a Londis forum.
Are we suddenly in Russia or China?
Every time I raise a problem with anyone, I either get ignored or I am told there isn't a problem.
Whatever next? Is Jac about to be censored?I use three wholesalers; none have Cadbury Mini Eggs bags on their product list.
Who decides who looks under 18?
The last girl I challenged was 35.
She floated out of the shop. They are a nuisance at our counter, but it makes sense to keep them.
It is interesting that before Covid Post Offices removed theirs as they migrated to convenience stores; I never understood why.Staff wages, energy bills and card processing charges are
the bulk of our costs. Their increases this year could be catastrophic.
It would be helpful to know how much other retailers are paying for energy in unit terms, not just total bills.
Our electricity is now costing us 17p per KWh (daytime),
13p per KWh (overnight), plus 30p per day standing charge. This is on a contract fixed until 31 December 2022.Mondelez, like so many other suppliers, sound like Boris Johnson.
I seem to recall a guy taking Sainsburys for a ride over several months. He put all his purchases through as one onion each.
