Attacking the symbols is very fashionable but perhaps we need to take an objective view of why we cannot expect the support we are all looking for from a symbol. We also need to compare like for like when making less than complimentary statements on the symbols. In the main the symbols do provide a good service. The problem & challenges that the symbols face is that they do not have the might of TESCO or any other to provide the expertise and economies of scale. I have also noticed that the ones who are shouting the loudest about the short comings of any symbol group also have very questionable loyalty and that is the crux of problem. How do square a circle. Not doable. It’s not cost effective to provide gold standard service to retailers when the partnership and loyalty between the retailers and the wholesaler is at best in the minority. The sums don’t add up. Support your symbol or they will all have to consolidate in order to compete with the mults offering of convenience.
