Tesco has been given a taste of its own medicine after a Sainsbury’s Local opened near one of its c-stores in Kent and was immediately deluged with customers.
The JS Local store opened on an old Kwik-Fit garage in the village of Jarvis Brook and was instantly welcomed by local residents and community leaders.
This is in contrast with local traders, who fear their trade will be hit, with the Tesco-owned One-Stop being particularly quiet on the day of the JS Local’s opening.
However, Tesco put a positive spin on the development. An official statement said: “Retail by its very nature is a competitive market and we think choice is important to customers and adds to the vitality and viability of an area.”
