Subway is set to increase its presence in the convenience sector following a partnership with service station operator Applegreen.
The first two Subway Applegreen stores will open in March in Uckfield, East Sussex and Gorey, Co. Wexford in the Republic of Ireland, with more sites due to open later this year.
Applegreen currently operates 95 sites in the UK and Ireland while Subway has over 300 stores in forecourts and convenience stores.
Subway area development manager Trevor Haynes said: “We are delighted to be working with Applegreen across its UK and Irish retail portfolio. It’s a great opportunity for the Subway brand to continue its expansion into key forecourt locations.”
He added that the move was a response to an increased call for Subway stores at forecourts and convenience stores. “We are seeing a great deal of demand for Subway stores on forecourts and within convenience stores at the moment, due to the simple operations, alongside minimal space and equipment requirements, it means that our stores are uniquely suited to non-traditional sites,” said Haynes.
