Imperial Tobacco is making its Gold Leaf Roll Your Own (RYO) tobacco brand available in a 9g pack.

The new small packs also come with papers, enabling adult smokers to make 22 hand rolled cigarettes for £2.79 and it is hoped the price point would appeal to value driven adult smokers and could offer “a legal, viable cost alternative to illicit RYO,” Imperial said.

The new packs, which join the 12.5g, 25g and 50g variants, also offer retailers profit margins of 12%.

Sales of sub 12.5g pack sizes of RYO tobacco have more than doubled over the past year, as increasing numbers of tobacco shoppers seek cheaper products Imperial said.

The 9g packs were also an ideal size for adult smokers to trial, it added.
