AF Blakemore has announced a 12-week vape recycling trial at 31 of its stores.
The scheme sees stores provided with retail tubes for customers to deposit their unbroken vapes.
Head of trading Jo Wrate said: “As a responsible retailer it is essential we take action to ensure the right measures are in places to enable safe vape recycling. Our pilot scheme will seek to understand customer behaviour and take up rates with recycling data being provided by stores four weeks.”
Speaking to Convenience Store, Wrate outlined the trial and potential future of the service.
“We will assess the program’s performance at the end of the 12-week period. If there is minimal uptake, we will evaluate whether to discontinue or extend the program.
“Through the scheme, we will evaluate customer usage every four weeks, considering various factors such as uptake.”
The pilot recycling scheme is being run in partnership with Mitie Waste. Wrate explained why they’re working with Mitie Waste. “Mitie Waste is our preferred supplier due to their established reputation and reliability within our organisation. Our decision to partner with them was influenced by multiple factors, particularly their exceptional service and strong end to end recycling processes.”
