Aldi has launched an online shopping and home delivery service for spirits, as it attempts to claim an even bigger share of UK alcohol sales and extend its reach beyond physical stores.
More than 20 spirits are available to purchase via the online store, including its top-selling Oliver Cromwell London Dry Gin which is priced at £9.99 for 70cl.
It follows the successful launch of an online delivery service exclusively for wine in 2016.
The new site also offers a ‘create your own case’ purchasing option - allowing customers to mix and match drinks from both the spirits and wine categories.
There is no minimum order and free delivery for all orders over £20. Orders below this must pay a £2.95 delivery charge.
Customers can choose to have products delivered to their homes, or to collect them from participating local stores via Collect+.
Aldi says its spirits range is growing from strength to strength with gin sales up 75% year on year, and whisky selling at a rate of seven bottles per minute.
Scottish customers are not able to buy products that fall below the MUP.
Any orders placed to Scottish addresses which do not meet the requirements of MUP will be refunded.
Managing director of buying Julie Ashfield said: “We launched our online wine store two years ago to ensure that our great quality and incredible value products were accessible to all of our customers, even if they don’t currently live near an Aldi store.
“We are delighted to now be doing the same for spirits, opening up our award-winning range to thousands more customers across the country,” she added.
