The Federation of Independent Retailers (the Fed) is making available emergency grants of up to £1,000, for members whose businesses have been ravaged in riot-torn cities and towns.

Announcing the help, the Fed’s National President Mo Razzaq said: “We have been shocked and appalled at the scenes of rioting, looting and destruction that has been taking place in towns and cities across the UK. Our first concern is always for our members so we are doing – and will continue to do – everything that we can to get those affected back on their feet.”

In the first instance, affected members should telephone or email the Fed’s Contact Centre (0207 017 8880 or contactus@nfrn.org.uk) to request an application form. This needs to be completed and returned to the Fed with relevant supporting documentation, including photographs of damage. All claims will then be forwarded to the Fed’s benefits sub-committee for consideration.

The Fed’s Contact Centre team, members of the organisation’s field force and district presidents are on hand to offer further comfort and support.

The financial assistance is being made available from the Fed’s Ratcliffe Fund, which helps members who have fallen on hard times or who require emergency support.
