High-profile Londis retailer Steve Bassett has partnered with Ubamarket to launch the company’s shopping app in his Southampton store, allowing customers to scan and pay for products using their phones.
After launching in Guy Warner’s Budgens stores last year, the Ubamarket app has now been re-branded for use in Steve’s Londis store on Oaktree Road in Bitterne Park.
The launch of the service is the result of a partnership between Londis, Ubamarket and HTEC, the epos, payment and loyalty solutions company.
Steve’s Southampton store is the first Londis outlet in the country to use the new shopping app and is one of five stores that Steve operates in the South West of England.
Commenting on the launch of the app, Steve said: “We’ve had the app in the store for about two and a half weeks and those customers who are using it really love it. The app really does take the shopping experience to the next level of convenience.
“We worked with HTEC to introduce the app in Southampton and their main office is only down the road, which means it is easy to contact them if we have any problems.”
The Ubamarket-powered app allows customers to make in-app payments, removing the need for customers to queue or unload items at the till. The app is designed to speed up service, allowing customers to pay for products at the checkout by scanning a QR code with their phone.
The system also allows shoppers to find products using a virtual shopping list and work out the best route to purchase items in-store, as well as keep track of product offers and loyalty points.
The app works with Steve’s HTEC epos system and he is looking to introduce the same system in his other Londis stores from early next year.
He added: “As soon as we have upgraded the system in our other stores then we can start using the app in those sites as well. We’re planning to upgrade all our epos software in January, after the Christmas rush.
“It’s all about keeping up with trends. Even thought we don’t know what Ubamarket 5.0 is going to look like, Ubamarket 1.0 is looking pretty good and if we stay ahead and adapt to shopper’s changing needs then it will be good for business.”
Commenting on the roll-out of the app, Ubamarket ceo and founder Will Broome said: “Following the success of our launch with the Budgens group, I’m delighted that we are now moving across to the Londis group with our first store in partnership with the hugely innovative and widely respected Steve Bassett. HTEC managing director Wayne Swallow added: “The Ubamarket app is perfect for people just stopping by to grab their lunch or to just make their usual shop more efficient. It also allows the store to notify the customer about particular deals currently running.”
