JW Filshill has appointed Arwel Carter as its new regional development manager.
Carter joins the fifth-generation family business after nearly nine years with McCurrach, and will report to Graham Cairns who has been promoted to sales and business development manager for the north of England.
Former sales and business development manager Jeanette Gordon has left the company.
Craig Brown, Filshill’s chief sales and marketing officer, said: “Under the leadership of Jeanette Gordon and Graham Cairns, we have built strong momentum for the KeyStore brand in the north of England and we want to build on that as more retailers choose KeyStore as the best solution for achieving increased profit and margin.
“Arwel will now work with Graham to stimulate growth and increase profitability in a competitive convenience marketplace that continues to evolve and throw up challenges while helping them retain the flexibility to run their stores the way they want to while offering a point of difference over their competitors.
“His knowledge of the territory will be invaluable and his involvement with a local football club shows that he share’s the strong sense of community that both Filshill and KeyStore adhere to.”
Carter, who joined the Army when he left school, had his first introduction to Filshill and the KeyStore brand after meeting Tony Hewson, a KeyStore Express retailer in Middleham, through football.
“I got to know Tony through my time working in ice cream with Unilever at McCurrach and we now run a football club together – AFC Middleham Town,” he said. “We got chatting and I found out about the Filshill position through Tony.
“McCurrach has been fantastic in giving me a toolkit and skill set in retail but I want to broaden my experience and I needed a new challenge – I’m really looking forward to meeting all our customers in the region and bringing new ones into the Filshill and KeyStore family.”
