Cheshire Police are appealing for information after offenders ram-raided a convenience store in the village of Willaston.
On Wednesday (August 22) at around 2:10am, a black Kia Sedona reversed into the McColl’s store on Neston Road in an attempt to steal the store’s cash machine.
Two men got out of the vehicle and entered the store, using an angle grinder to try and dislodge the ATM. The men later fled the scene, without the cash machine, in another dark coloured vehicle parked close to the scene of the crime.
Commenting on the investigation, detective sergeant Graeme Carvell from Ellesmere Port CID said: “On this occasion the offenders were unsuccessful in their attempts. However, they caused a significant amount of damage to the store and we are committed to doing all that we can to bring them to justice.
“Investigations in relation to this incident are on-going and we are currently following a number of lines of enquiry, including CCTV, witness enquiries and forensics.”
Police are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or any local residents who may have noticed people in the area acting suspiciously in the days and weeks leading up to the ram-raid.
The McColl’s store remains closed while the police continue their investigation and staff have asked not to be contacted by the media at this time.
Anyone with information that could help officers with their enquiries should call Cheshire Police on 101, quoting IML 161729, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
