West Midlands Police are investigating an armed ATM ram raid at a convenience store in Birmingham that lasted just 90 seconds.

The incident happened at A1 Convenience Store on Twickenham Road in Kingstanding at around 7pm on 14 February, while the store was still open.

Three men in balaclavas stormed the store, two wielding crowbars, threatening staff and customers, before a blue van was backed into the front door of the shop. A hoist was then used to drag away the ATM.

A shop worker was also threatened with a crowbar, as one suspect demanded his gold wedding ring, before existing the store – all within 90 seconds.

The incident followed a number of recent ATM raids across the UK, including a cash machine burglary at a Spar store in Chelmsley Wood and a late-night raid at Lambs Larder in Tunbridge Wells.
