A group of former sub-postmasters and victims of the Post Office Horizon scandal have been recognised in the King’s New Year’s Honours List 2025 for their remarkable efforts in campaigning for justice.

Lee Hamilton, Josephine Hamilton, Christopher Head, and Seema Misra have been awarded OBEs following fellow campaigner Sir Alan Bates’s knighthood in early 2024.

Lee declared bankrupt at the age of 39 after he had refused to pay the Post Office £27,000, which it claimed he owed due to ‘losses’ at his Post Office in Bridlington, East Yorkshire.

According to The Yorkshire Post, Lee hopes the recognition will lead to quicker justice for the victims of the scandal.

Josephine, who operated a Post Office in South Warnborough, Hampshire, pleaded guilty to false accounting to avoid prison after being accused by the Post Office of taking thousands and was forced to repay £36,000.

Christopher was falsely accused of stealing more than £80,000 from his branch in West Boldon, in 2006.

Seema was eight weeks pregnant with her second child when she was sentenced to 15 months in prison after being wrongly convicted of stealing £70,000 from her West Byfleet Post Office branch in Surrey.

Also named in the Honours list, postmaster Richard Haley who runs Epworth Post Office has been awarded a British Empire Medal (BEM) for his selfless service to the Doncaster community and the Post Office.

Leicester Postmaster of Westcotes Post Office has also been awarded a BEM for his services to the Post Office and community in the Midlands. The recognition follows last year’s celebrations of Hemandra’s 30 years of dedication to his store and the local community.

Additionally, Younis Chaudhry chief executive of Regal Food Products Group Plc has been recognised in the New Year Honours List with an MBE for his services to business and to the community of Bradford.
