The retail industry has offered its condolences following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

The Queen passed away on 8 September at the age of 96 following a 70-year reign.

The Association of Convenience Stores posted its condolences on social media.

The Fed’s National President Jason Birks paid the following tribute: “Independent retailers are saddened by the death of HM Queen Elizabeth II. She served with unswerving duty, dedication and commitment. May she rest in peace. Our thoughts are with the King and his family.”

Dr Pete Cheema of the Scottish Grocers’ Federation said: “Scottish Grocers’ Federation is saddened to hear that Her Majesty The Queen has passed away. Both SGF and our members convey our deepest condolences. The many decades of dedication and service by Queen Elizabeth II are a very special legacy which will live on. Our thoughts are with the Royal Family at this time.”

The Federation of Wholesale Distributors said it “is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Her Majesty The Queen, Elizabeth II”.

“Our thoughts and condolences are with The Royal Family and everyone in our trade and around the world mourning the loss of Her Majesty.”

Bira also posted its condolences.

One Stop also posted condolences on Twitter on the Queen’s passing.

Co-op CEO Shirine Khoury-Haq said: “I would like to offer our deepest condolences to The Royal Family, following the news about the passing of Her Majesty The Queen. Our thoughts are with the Royal Family, and we join all others who will be reflecting on her historic reign.”

In a statement, the publisher of ConvenienceStore.co.uk, William Reed, offered its condolences. CEO Charles Reed said: “William Reed is deeply saddened by the death of Her Majesty the Queen. In a long and glorious reign, the Queen lived a life of extraordinary public service, and her wholehearted support for UK business was a particular feature, most notably through the Queen’s Awards for Enterprise, but also through her countless visits to open factories and supermarkets, as well as her passionate support for related charities.

“The Queen touched the lives of many people in the food and drink industry and we are truly grateful for the devotion she has shown to the country and the Commonwealth. We send our heartfelt condolences to the Royal Family, and wish health, happiness and longevity to the Queen’s heir: King Charles III.”

Independent retailers also took to social media to pay their respects to Queen Elizabeth II.

When offering its condolences, the Bank of England said an announcement regarding bank notes would be made in due course. “As the first monarch to feature on Bank of England banknotes, the Queen’s iconic portraits are synonymous with some of the most important work we do. Current banknotes featuring the image of Her Majesty The Queen will continue to be legal tender. A further announcement regarding existing Bank of England banknotes will be made once the period of mourning has been observed.”
