A community retailer has used funds won in a competition run by Walkers to restore a local attraction to its former glory.

Walkers Community Overlay - John

Earlier this summer, Walkers gave ten lucky retailers the opportunity to win £1,000 each to support their local neighbourhood.

John Wilson from The Corner Shop, Cellardyke, Scotland, was one of the ten lucky winners, and used the money to restore an attraction in his community.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to have won this prize which allows us to give back to our community and really make a difference,” explained John. “In our local area there’s the Cellardyke tidal pool which was a focal attraction for families in the 1950s to the 1970s.

“Over the years, it came into disrepair but with wild swimming becoming increasingly popular again, the prize money has been used to restore this little piece of history, bringing our community together and providing a safe place for people of all ages and abilities to swim. Thank you to all of Walkers for helping to make this positive change in our community.”

Mike Chapman, head of wholesale at PepsiCo, added: “Convenience stores are such an integral part of local communities and retailers have gone to great lengths over the past few years in supporting their customers through unprecedented times. To acknowledge this, we are delighted to help so many retailers like John to make a difference in their local communities. Our Walkers competition celebrates the important role that retailers play in society. In fact, convenience stores are regularly found to offer a service that has the most beneficial impact on local communities, and over the past few years, local shops have become essential in their neighbourhoods.”
