Scottish retailers are being urged to stay alert following a report of counterfeit £20 Bank of England notes circulating the country.

The fake notes pass UV note checkers, warned What Every Wants in Hamilton. The store is advising retailers who encounter them to report the incidents to the police with CCTV evidence.

On Facebook, Londis Solo Convenience in Glasglow wrote it had “recently been a victim” of fake notes after experiencing no incidents for a “good few years”.

The store has encouraged retailers to remain vigilant. “This is happening in the local areas. Hamilton, Motherwell and Glasgow,” it wrote.
