Grocery delivery service Snappy Shopper is partnering with more convenience stores to launch phase two of its free period product initiative.
In February, Snappy Shopper partnered with female retailers in Scotland to deliver free sanitary products to customers across the country.
To help combat period poverty, the scheme has expanded to England and a selection of convenience stores will drive the second stage forward.
Through the initiative, customers can now add a free sanitary product to their basket with ‘no questions asked,’ thanks to the grocery delivery company’s pledge to provide free tampons and sanitary pads.
The promotion will run across the Snappy Shopper platform from May 22 to June 16. According to Plan International UK data, one in ten girls across the UK cannot afford to buy menstrual products, while one in seven continue to struggle to afford them.
Supported by seven retailers nationwide, the program has expanded to include three Scottish stores: Kilbarchan Convenience Store, Spar Cadzow Bridge, and Stevenston Post Office Premier, as well as four stores in England: Premier Notay’s Convenience Store, Premier Rawmarsh, Premier Silverdale, and The Corner Stores Costcutter.
Items included in the second phase are Tampax Compak Ultra, Tampax Compak Regular, and Always Ultra Pads.
Chief transformation officer at Snappy Shopper Lisa Venter said: “Period poverty is a very real challenge faced by people who menstruate throughout the UK. While the Scottish government is taking steps to combat this issue, we at Snappy Shopper believe free sanitary products should be accessible in as many places as possible. We are thrilled to expand this initiative to customers in England in phase two.”
