Spar has announced it is revamping its water bottle range in a bid to reduce single-use plastics.
The Silverbrook Falls Water bottles will now be made of up to 51% recycled plastic, which Spar said demonstrated its environmental credentials.
The revamp comes after chancellor Philip Hammond’s Budget announcement that the government will introduce a tax on the production and import of plastic packaging in the UK from April 2022.
Spar UK head of Spar Brand, Cath McIlwham, said: “As ethical and environmental concerns are growing, using recycled material not only reassures our customers but also demonstrates how committed we are to being an environmentally responsible retailer.
“We will save almost 130 tonnes of plastic every year with the changes we’ve made to the packaging. We are confident this initiative will be a huge success for our retailers.”
