Amrit Singh of Community Retailer of the Year H & Jodie’s has called on brands to better represent the sector on social media.
Speaking at the National Convenience Show (NCS) 2025, he said brands “do not do enough online to highlight that we are a massive part of their vision”.
Amrit would prefer visibility and recognition from brands online over “financial gain” or “significant amounts of POS”.
“Brands have massive social media platforms. They have millions of followers and maintain strong rapport with their consumers. I’ve always always wanted the opportunity to be featured on brand social media platforms,” he told the audience.
The most effective online campaigns, according to Amrit, demonstrate brands collaborating with retailers outside of stores, helping consumers “relate to the point of purchase”. However, there is “not enough representation of this on socials,” he explained.
“It’s been a little personal project to feature and align ourselves with brands. We actively support these businesses in our communities and showcase their products in our store. However, we don’t get featured in their PR as often as I would like.
”I would love to be part of their consumer campaigns, as this presents a significant opportunity for us to establish alignment,” he added.
Nisa retailer Mike Sohal, who also shared his retail experiences at the NCS last week, echoed similar views, emphasising the “need for better support from brands”.
He occasionally recieves support from a few suppliers, but feels that those larger suppliers who retailers “contribute towards their profits by selling their goods”, do not provide enough support “as they should”.
