After more than half a century serving the Leyland community, Costcutter retailers David and Margaret Brindle have hung up their keys and retired.
The family-owned store on School Lane has been run by the Brindle family since 1959 and operated by David and Margaret for the past 50 years.
Comments from locals have flooded a Facebook post, thanking the couple for their “hard work and dedication to providing a friendly local shop”. Others shared memories of the store and said they “deserve a medal for all the years”.
Speaking to Convenience Store, Jamie Davison, retail director at Bestway said it is a truly remarkable achievement for the couple, who have not only built a successful business but have become pillars of the Leyland community over the past six decades.
“Their dedication, hard work, and personal commitment have left an indelible mark, and they have touched the lives of countless individuals and families along the way.
We would like to extend our congratulations to them for everything they have accomplished and express our deepest gratitude on behalf of all those they have supported throughout their incredible journey. It has been our absolute pleasure and honour to work closely with them and their fabulous family and as they step into a well-earned retirement, we wish them every happiness, health, and fulfilment in this exciting new chapter of their lives”.
As the couple step away from the counter, the store has been acquired by an experienced regional operator who manages a collection of established stores across the region.
They plan to continue the “success of the store and enhance the experience for its loyal customer base,” said business and property advisory firm Christie & Co.
