Budgens retailers are hoping to spruce up their sales of Christmas trees this year thanks to a new range in different sizes, pots, and attractive price points.
With prices starting at £12.99 for a 3ft tree, Budgens customers will have a choice of two Christmas tree types, including one non-drop needle variety, as well as four sizes.
They will also be able to choose from a 3/4ft tree and a 5ft-plus tree with or without pot.
Budgens trading director Willie Hamilton is expecting more than £100,000-worth of Christmas trees to be sold through stores this year, an increase of 100% on last year. Trees are being sourced from the UK, Denmark, Belgium and around the German/Netherlands border.
Deliveries to Budgens stores have begun and are being made on Danish trolleys, although some smaller Budgens stores will have their trees delivered loose in smaller vans.
According to the British Christmas Tree Growers Association, the tradition of Christmas trees is thought to date back to 16th Century Germany. They were introduced into Britain during the Georgian period.
