Police are hunting for a "polite" armed robber who stole from four stores in as many days in Greater Manchester. The man, who wore pink washing up gloves in one raid, carried a hammer or knife and has been described by detectives as being very polite during the thefts. He thanked staff in Bargain Booze in Edgely and told Spar assistants in Shaw Heath he would not hurt them. In another raid at The Local off licence in Hazel Grove, he is thought to have bribed children in a nearby park to help him escape.

A robber armed with a knife is being hunted by police after targeting a newsagents in West Croydon, Surrey. The man demanded a lone female shop assistant hand over cash from the till at the Tamworth Road store. The robber, who was captured on CCTV, escaped on foot.

An axe-wielding raider has been jailed for four years after an attempted robbery at a Bradford Mace store. Drug addict Narinder Kumar told a court he had been forced to carry out the raid because of a £200 debt to a dealer.
Retailers Chinderpal and Satnum Bhullar managed to restrain the robber but his accomplice, who also carried an axe, freed him. Chinderpal was injured in the struggle.

Four men and a 15-year-old youth from Liverpool have been arrested following an attempted raid on a Devon store. The gang targeted Mannamead Stores in Plymouth and tried to force the front door. A passing taxi driver raised the alarm and the group fled.

Two raiders are believed to have hidden inside a Co-op store in Gosforth, Newcastle, in order to target staff as they cashed up. The masked men, armed with a gun and a knife, forced staff to hand over the day's takings before escaping on motorbikes.
