Olbas has launched the second campaign in its ongoing series to support families through winter. With a renewed focus on helping parents manage both work and family obligations when an illness strikes, Olbas’ campaign highlights the challenges faced by working parents and promotes its comprehensive range of congestion relief products.
Recent research commissioned by Olbas reveals that cold and flu season has a significant impact on working families, especially those with young children. The study, surveying 1,000 parents with children under 16, found that seven in ten working parents have taken time off to care for an unwell child. More than half (57%) of parents reported feeling guilty about missing work for family health reasons, with 81% calling for more flexible working policies that allow for family caregiving during sickness.
The study also uncovered interesting differences in how parents manage caregiving responsibilities. Fathers were more likely than mothers (41% vs. 31%) to feel the need to justify or conceal the real reason behind their absence. For those who cannot take time off, mothers (39%) are more likely than fathers (30%) to rely on grandparents for childcare support.
Parents’ own health often suffers as they juggle caregiving and work responsibilities; nearly two-thirds (64%) report feeling rundown when caring for sick children. Additionally, 65% noted that once one family member falls ill, others soon follow, creating a “domino effect” in the household.
Rachel Ramsden, brand manager at Olbas, commented: “Parents are often stretched thin between work and family responsibilities, and when cold and flu season hits, it can be overwhelming. Our research shows the resilience of modern parents, many of whom are working full-time while managing the unpredictability of family health. We’re dedicated to helping retailers equip families with the essential solutions for managing the seasonal influx of colds and sniffles. By ensuring that trusted products are readily available, we support retailers in becoming a reliable resource for families as the winter season approaches.”
