The Bestway Group is launching Xtra Local Express - a new cash and carry-based retail club for smaller stores.
The new club is designed to better cater for stores which are too small to feature all of the monthly promotions required by its Xtra Local retail club.
“The slimmed down” version works on the same model as Xtra Local - giving retailers competitive promotional deals and in-store POS - but on a smaller scale for those who have less than five one metre bays of traditional grocery.
Xtra Local Express requires retailers to take a minimum of 12 consumer-facing deals each month (15 if licensed) rather than the full scale Xtra Local requirement of 35.
Retailers must also commit to a minimum spend of £1,000 of non tobacco wholesale spend a week.
The launch of Xtra Local Express follows a successful trial period in which more than 300 retailers signed up – a mix of new customers and Xtra Local customers moving to Xtra Local Express.
James Hall, symbol and club director at Bestway, said: “Xtra Local is synonymous with great value promotions and many members request as many as possible in order to make their stores a beacon for value.
“However it became evident through our discussions with smaller retailers that they were finding it difficult to comply with all the promotions due to the smaller size of their store and consequently lack of fixture space.
“Offering value has never been as important in retail and by ensuring that smaller stores can compete and attract new shoppers through highly competitive promotions, we are confident that Xtra Local Express will appeal massively to a wide range of retailers who want to offer their customers the best deals locally.”
