Marks & Spencer Simply Food outlets helped the retailer grow its food sales by 7% for the year to April 13.
M&S chief executive Stuart Rose said that M&S's food business has continued its strong performance as a result of better innovation and the success of the Simply Food store opening programme.
Like-for-like food sales were up by 5.6% for the 13 weeks to April 13 and by 8.4% for the full year. M&S plan to grab a greater share of the UK food market with a continued focus on opening new Simply Food stores. Rose said: "We are pleased with the progress we're making; we're selling more goods, and this is not a bad set of results, but there remains much to do."
