Police in Morley, Durham have sent letters of congratulations to 16 local retailers after they refused to sell alcohol to a 14-year-old girl in a test purchase operation.
Only two premises visited by City and Holbeck’s Licensing Department failed to ask the teenage volunteer for identification.
Inspector Joanne O’Hare of Morley Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “It’s great news to know that the majority of off-licences passed the test and youngsters’ sources of alcohol are drying up.
Cutting underage drinking and anti-social behaviour are two of our key priorities and over the summer initiatives such as this and extra patrols in local parks had a really positive effect.”
