GroceryAid’s Sporting Lunch has raised more than £760,000 for the trade charity, a record amount for the event.
The event, which took place at the London Intercontinental – The o2, on Friday 11 November, saw 32 sporting heroes assemble alongside 1,600 guests from 294 companies. The annual Sporting Lunch was supported by 30 sponsors and was hosted by Sky Sports presenter Natalie Pinkham and former international Rugby player Martin Bayfield.
GroceryAid CEO Steve Barnes said that more people than ever will need support over the next year. “GroceryAid anticipates an increase in demand for its services over the next 12 months, so this industry support means we can continue providing free and confidential welfare support to grocery colleagues in need. Last year, we experienced a 61% increase in incidences of support compared to the previous year and we expect this trend to continue.”
The sporting heroes included:
Overcoming Adversity and the Importance of Resilience
Jonny Bairstow, Sir Jason Kenny CBE, Dame Laura Kenny DBE and Nic Hamilton.
The Road to Commonwealth Success
Alistair Brownlee MBE, Liz McColgan MBE, Elish McColgan and Katarina Johnson Thompson
