At 10.45am on Tuesday 8 October, the House of Lords Built Environment Committee, as part of its inquiry on high streets in towns and small cities, will be hearing evidence from Baroness Taylor of Stevenage, as well as Alex Norris MP, who are both Parliamentary Under-Secretaries of State in the Ministry of Housing for Communities and Local Government.
The Built Environment Committee’s ‘High streets in towns and small cities’ inquiry is exploring how high streets can be regenerated and become more resilient and attractive. The inquiry will consider the different uses of high streets by various communities and businesses and what is essential for them to flourish economically and socially.
Questions the committee is likely to ask include:
- What are the Government’s plans for supporting successful high streets?
- How the Government will deliver on its manifesto commitment to revamp empty shops, pubs and community spaces.
- What the Government’s plans are for reviewing business rates and when will this be launched?
- What does the Government think the role of local authorities should be in supporting high streets?
This session is open to the public and can be streamed live and on demand here.
