A London convenience store caught selling alcohol outside of its legal hours to a team of undercover detectives has lost its alcohol licence.
The licence was revoked by Westminster City Council last Friday (13 December). The store, Sunny’s Corner on Harrow Road was the subject of a meeting to determine its future on 5 December, at which the Metropolitan Police said it had “no confidence” in the management team - even if new conditions were placed on them.
Officers visited the site on numerous occasions, and nine of its 26 licensing conditions were breached. PC Steve Maldoon said: “We’ve got absolutely no faith any further can be done to the licence will be adhered to by the holder.” Another office who attended the store added: “It’s not a quantum leap that people will know where to go in the area to purchase before or after hours.”
The shop owner, Paranjeet Singh Grover, apologised for the breaches and went to lengths to explain the improvements he now had in place. Questions were also raised about the number of staff working at the store.
Responding, chair of the committee, cllr Robert Eaglerton said: “The inspections have happened, you’ve been warned, people have tried to engage with you, and you’ve just not responded.”
