Best-one retailers and their staff now have access to a new low-cost online training programme designed to raise store standards and help stores meet their legal and regulatory standards.
The ‘C-Store Essentials’ package was created in partnership with Best-one and online training provider Upskill People, following talks with the Best-one Ambassadors, a panel of independent retailers formed to help steer the future direction and strategy of the symbol group.
Stores with up to 10 staff pay £200 for the course which covers 10 modules in key areas including ‘Personal Essentials’, ‘Fire Safety Essentials’, ‘Legal Issues’, and ‘Think 25 Restricted Products’.
Stores with 11 staff or more pay an additional flat rate of £75. Employees receive certificates on passing each module which can be used to prove due diligence if needed.
Managers can undertake an additional three modules including a ‘Personal Licence Holder Briefing’.
There are also courses specifically designed for those operating post offices or forecourts. All are fully accredited and conducted online in the retailer’s own time or in-store to reduce cost.
Training was a “business impetrative”, Bestway group director of symbol James Hall said.
“Not only does it motivate staff, it gives them the knowledge and skills to deliver the upmost customer service – which is one of the top three reasons why shoppers choose their convenience store. Retailers also have a responsibility to ensure they are meeting the required legal and regulatory standards.”
Retailers unable to prove due diligence in training staff in breach of regulations can face fines of thousands of pounds and, in extreme cases, even jail.
