Wholesaler Booker has invested over £500,000 in extending the chilled warehouse at its Hatfield distribution centre. At 4,000sq m, the new facility doubles the centre's chilled capacity.
The new chiller has been fitted with low energy lighting, which reduces the power consumption by 60%, offsetting additional carbon and energy used by the ambient chamber.
“We are delighted with the new chilled chamber and the extra capacity will help us provide a better service to customers,” said chief executive Charles Wilson. “Chilled sales are growing at over 20% in Booker so it was essential that we improved the facilities at Hatfield to ensure we continue to increase our choice of products.
“With the creation of 50 new jobs and the offset of the power consumption, this is a great achievement.”
Wilson and Booker chairman Richard Rose were joined by the non-executive board and senior management team to open the new chamber.
