Camelot has reported a drop in National Lottery ticket sales for the first six months of the 2013/14 financial year.
Ticket sales for this period totalled £3,311.8m, a drop from 2012/13’s figure of £3,528.8m. This drop was attributed to record sales achieved during the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games thanks to a special UK Euromillions Raffle, and two extended Euromillions rollover periods.
Sales of tickets for draw-based games dropped by £266.5m which Camelot believes underlines the rationale for the recent relaunch of the Lotto game with new prizes and a new price of £2. Its instant play games saw a 5% year-on-year increase in sales. Retail remained Camelot’s largest sales channel, accounting for 83% of all UK sales.
Camelot managing director Andy Duncan said: “We are pleased with this good set of results for the first half of this financial year. During these challenging economic times, we’re extremely proud to have returned £864m to National Lottery projects and more than double that figure in prize money to our players during this period.”
