The Co-operative Group is rolling out Lego and Hasbro toys to a further 50 of its large stores, after a hugely successful trial.
Shoppers buying the toys as last-minute gifts and treats had driven a three-fold growth in sales at trial stores, the Co-op said.
Best-selling Lego and Hasbro lines will now be stocked in one and two bay plans in 127 large Co-op Food stores.
The trial initially started in October 2016 and over the following 12 months it was increased to 77 stores.
The rollout was part of the Co-op’s ongoing work to ensure that it tailored its ranges to the shopping needs of the community, Co-op toy buyer Katie Lee, said.
“Last minute gifts just around the corner are driving the sales surge” she added.
“With products at pocket-money prices up to a maximum of £20 it caters for either treats or gifts.
“As a community retailer, our aim is to deliver what our members and customers want, when and where they need it, and the added convenience of offering quality toys locally has received a great response.”
Bestselling Lego lines include Mighty Micros: Spider-Man vs. Scorpion; Y-Wing Microfighter and Jungle Buggy, with leading Hasbro lines include Trolls, My Little Pony; Marvel collectible figures; Transformers Generations Titans Return Figure; My Little Pony Friends and Mr Potato Head.
