Retailers have been warned to be vigilant against fraud when operating payment terminals.
Following a recent rash of scams involving Ukash vouchers, leading to retailers being defrauded, PayPoint has compiled a list of tips that should be shared among all staff members.
It advises retailers to ensure that transactions take place only at the counter and when the customer has handed over the money, and never to conduct a PayPoint transaction over the phone. Retailers have also been warned to be wary of phone calls from people claiming to be from PayPoint reporting a fault with an agent’s line. Several retailers have been caught out by this scam, losing up to £2,000. PayPoint urges its retail agents to always ask for identification from people claiming to be a representative of the company.
PayPoint invites agents with any queries to contact them on 08457 600 333. Ukash has also published a list of security tips to help protect consumers from scams. It urges anyone who is concerned that they have been a victim of fraud to contact the Action Fraud helpline on 0300 123 2040.
