Spar has announced a major revamp of its own-label wine portfolio, offering a simplified range more focused on drinking occasions and clear pricing tiers.
The first phase of the launch will start in October with the introduction of everyday wines and varietals, followed by range exclusives and regionals in March next year. The everyday wines come in a choice of five easy drinking styles, such as bold red and crisp white, while the 12 varietals feature the most popular grape varieties such as pinot grigio, merlot and malbec, with the grape variety forming the most prominent part of the label. The everyday wines retail at £5, with the varietals at £6.
Philippa Carr MW, consultant to Spar UK who helped create the range, said: “This is a complete game changer for our wine range. Spar has seized the opportunity available by developing a range of wine that is on trend, relevant and offers consumers great value for money.”
Cath McIlwham, Spar UK head of brand, added: “We are very excited to bring this new range of wine to the convenience market. This modern new range is unique to Spar. The packaging is bold and engaging while at the same time the product has award winning quality and will be available at ongoing EDLP.”
The launch will be supported by a marketing campaign including Spar radio, instore POS, newsletters, social media, consumer web features and PR.
