Jason Kandola's Costcutter in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, is one of the first convenience stores in the UK to offer an automated 24-hour DVD rental service.
Since installation in September last year, the vending machine has attracted over 400 regular customers who between them rent 1,000 DVDs a month. The store takes a share of the profits, as well as benefiting from the new customers it attracts.
Jason said: "I am always looking at ways to entice new and existing customers into the store. This new entertainment service has driven footfall which is great for business."
The concept, already popular in Spain, is being promoted in the UK by Original Video, which hopes to introduce the machines to retailers across the country this year.
