Blakemore Trade Partners is rolling out contactless payment technology across its Spar store estate following a successful trial.
The business will introduce contactless payment kits to all epos stores over the coming months, with the rollout expected to be complete by autumn 2015.
AF Blakemore IT strategic projects director Simon Wiltshire said the move would result in “quicker and more convenient payment transactions at the till point.”
“It will also result in a lower commission charge for our retailers. Contactless payment will also provide additional payment card security,” he added.
Contactless technology is already being used by 30 of Blakemore Trade Partners’ Spar stores and on average 11% of transactions at these sites are contactless.
The limit for contactless payments is currently £20 but is set to increase to £30 in September 2015.
