Blueheath has acquired Essex-based wholesaler AC Ward and Son (ACW) in a £3m deal.
The announcement was made as the company presented its interim results, which showed turnover up 53% to £52.3m. AC Ward has an annual turnover of about £55m. As a result of the purchase, Landmark member Blueheath joins the Key Lekkerland group, while the picture is clouded further by the fact that ACW is also a member of the Today’s Group. It has about 80 retailers who have taken on fascia packages through the wholesaler - about half of which are Key Store and the other half Day-Today.
Current managing director James Ward will join Blueheath to support what could be a complicated integration, expected to take about six months. Blueheath has also appointed Andrew King as commercial director. King, 39, who has 20 years in retail, ran the Dillons and Supercigs chains while they were under Tesco ownership.
